Note to Self: Fire Hot
Today was an interesting day. It was the family get together for Independence Day. I was a little worried that Kethra would be afraid of all the kids, but I got to be very proud of her. She did very well with everyone, though she was pretty tuckered out by the end of it. My sister-in-law insisted I stop on the way so we could get some fireworks, so I did. Kethra did pretty well with those too. They made her nervous at first, but by the end she was fine. So fine, in fact, that she hung around my ankles while I was trying to light some Morning Glory sparklers for my little cousins (terrible batch of Morning Glories this time though; usually they're the best sparklers ever, but this bunch was awful). Unfortunately, this put in the right position for a flaming chunk of paper wrapper from the sparkler to land right on her back. That's right -- I managed to set my puppy, my little baby, on fire. Poor dog. Fortunately, she's fine, just a little singed so she smells kinda funny. I don't think she even noticed that she was on fire; she didn't whine or anything. I'm pretty sure she just panicked a little because we were panicking. I'm going to have to be more careful with fireworks around her in the future. And since I'm planning to get a shotgun (as soon as I get my correct address on my driver's license to satisfy the ATF), a beautiful Benelli Nova, to go trap shooting on the fourth, I guess I'm going to break her of being gun shy too. Poor little dog.
